Our Mission Statement:

The mission of the Massage in Schools Programme is to provide high quality and professional training to all teachers and caring adults willing to bring nurturing touch into schools.

Our Vision:

The vision of the Massage in Schools Programme is that every child attending school experience positive and nurturing touch every day … everywhere in the world.

MISP is for Primary school children, aged 4 – 12 years.  Teachers and caregivers will be trained to facilitate and observe a peer massage programme, in which only children massage children.  The programme is well structured, yet simple, making it easy for teachers to incorporate into the daily routine of the classroom.  It intends to give children the chance to experience nurturing touch at school in a safe and creative way.   The massage routine is introduced gradually to the children, all strokes have names which the children recognise, such as, ‘ice skating’, ‘baker’ and climbing rope’  Children always ask permission from each other before they begin and say thankyou at the end.  Children do not remove any clothes to participate.  Once they know the routine, a 10 minute slot for the massage can be incorporated into the school day.

I am presently living in Leeds and attended MISA training in England. I am moving to Edinburgh in August and would really like to pursue my interest in the Massage in Schools program and would be interested in meeting up with people / visiting schools who are using the program. I am currently working as a Children’s Centre teacher/Partnership Advisory teacher and as an aromatherapist / Infant Massage instructor. I wonder if it would be possible to join your association and make contact with people working in your area. Thanks, Helen x
